1/48 Monogram B-26 Marauder

Forums - Wed, 04/10/2024 - 21:07
With the news of a new 1/48 B-26 Marauder on the horizon (now just released), I decided I'd build my old Monogram kit that had been languishing in my stash for many years. It's mostly OTB, except for some resin replacement engine cowlings I had in the box' as well as adding some MV lenses for the wing lights and IFF lights, adding clear colored plastic wing tip lights, and substituting some spare resin gun barrels for the kit ones. I also had an Eduard masking set which came in quite handy. The interior is OOTB. The big silver thingy is a Terry Dean nose weight I bought years ago, designed specifically for the kit. The entire model was rescribed using a razor saw for the fuselage and a UMM scriber for the wings and tailplanes. The shiny patches on the kit plastic are due to brushing some Testors liquid cement in the scribe lines to clean them out after the initial sanding. The kit has a bad rep for bad fit, but the only true problem were the extensions on the wing tops for the tops of the nacelles. Both of them simply needed to be gently bent downward (it did create stress marks in the plastic) and then they fit the nacelles quite well. The rest of the seams were average to good, but with no real fit problems, including all of the clear parts. I did, however, use UV cured clear resin for all of the fuselage windows except for the radio/navigator's right side window with the bubble. Also note the wire sticking out of the nose glazing. All of the kit guns were modified with either drilled holes or wire extensions so that the all of the gun barrels could be added at the end of the project. The pink stuff is Silly Putty being used to mask the exposed main gear, which have to be added before adding the underside wing nacelles. The 1-piece replacement resin cowls can also ne seen here. Everything else about the build was straightforward. Clear packing tape was used for the wing leading edges in place of the plastic kit parts. On to the finished pics! I used Alclad Gray Primer for the underside and Model Master 34086 Dark OD for the top, with 34087 OD used for some lighter panel variations. Tamiya brown panel line wash was used and some MIG powders brushed on for additional streaking and for the exhaust staining. The chipping was done with a small sponge and also with a silver colored pencil. I added D-Day stripes because I liked their look, though the decal sheet doesn't show them. The markings for Valkyrie were from Cutting Edge. Got this one done just in time before the new kit is being built by everyone else! Questions, critiques, and comments welcome, as always. Gil

1/12 Fiat 500 F Upgraded Edition

IMPROVED DOOR HINGES – UPDATED STEERING SYSTEM

Upgraded moulds – Opening hood and trunk – Opened or closed top – Opening doors – Steering wheels – Working suspensions – Rubber tires – Photoetched and chromed parts

The “Nuova 500” was produced by Fiat from 1957 to 1975. It is a real icon on four wheels and one of the symbols of “made in Italy”. Its unique and recognizable design is famous all over the World. When the small car was set up by the Italian car manufacturer, its goal was simple: to introduce on the market at a very affordable price a new compact car able to enlarge the number of potential customers. Furthermore the new car should be easy to drive, even in the city traffic, and provide very low running costs. The “Fiat 500” was released on the market in July 1957 and it was immediately a success. In 1965 was introduced the 500F, the version with the largest number of units produced. Easily recognizable for the front-hinged doors, in line with the new laws, the Fiat 500F adopted several technical and aesthetic improved solutions as the new frame and the wider windscreen. The Fiat 500F is, still today, the most “classic” version of the whole 500 production and it remains in the heart of a huge number of car fans.

1/24 DAF 95 Master Truck
The ‘Concept 95/380’ has been, for some time, the flagship product in the renowned DAF manufacturer’s lineup, representing a further development of the Space Cab series. It was recognized by the market as a significant evolution compared to its predecessors. Indeed, numerous technical and aesthetic improvements were developed and adopted, greatly appreciated by users of road industrial vehicles, especially for long-haul journeys. The soundproof cabin and advanced shock absorbers for the time provided top-of-the-market onboard comfort, and the powerful 6-cylinder ATI (Advanced Turbo Intercooling) engine ensured good performance with a particular focus on operating costs.

1/35 Pz.Kpfw. VI Tiger I Ausf. E late production

LINK-AND-LENGTH TRACKS OR GLUABLE RUBBER TRUCKS – DECALS SHEET FOR 4 VERSIONS – COLOR INSTRUCTION SHEET

The Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausf. Tiger I is undoubtedly one of the most famous tanks of World War II. It was developed to provide the armored divisions of the Wehrmacht with a heavily armored and heavily armed tank to complement the more common medium tanks, Panzer III and Panzer IV, which were no longer effectively countering enemy tanks. Its primary armament consisted of the renowned and lethal long-barreled 88mm KwK 36 L/56 anti-tank gun. Installed in the turret and protected by a heavy 120mm shielding, it could penetrate the armor of any contemporary enemy vehicle even at long distances. Deployed on all major theatres of operation, it played an active role in German military operations in Normandy and the Western Front. Despite facing issues of reliability and deployment, the heavy tank, when operated by skilled crews, was always greatly feared by the Allied forces.

1/56 Panther Sd.Kfz.171 Ausf. A

WWll TANK COLLECTION – 40 PARTS – HIGHLY DETALIED KIT – DECALS FOR 2 VERSIONS – TURRET AND HULL WITH ZIMMERIT – FIGURE INCLUDED

The Panzerkampfwagen V “Panther” is widely recognised as one of the best tanks that was produced during World War 2. It was deployed as a direct response to the Soviet T-34 and KV-1 tanks on the Eastern Front, which were superior to both the Panzer III and Panzer IV in terms of performance and armaments. Powered by a 700 horsepower V-12 Mayback engine, it was armed with the 75 mm KwK 42 high speed gun which was a very effective anti-tank weapon. The Panther was designed with optimal armor protection, including inclined front armor. Its overall mobility, speed and armaments made the Panther one of the leading tanks of the period, and ensured its deployment on all of the main operational fronts, from the East through Italy and France.

1/56 M8/M20

WWll TANK COLLECTION – 74 PARTS – HIGHLY DETALIED KIT – DECALS FOR 2 VERSIONS – 2 ALTERNATIVE MODELS: M8 – M20 – FIGURE INCLUDED

At the beginning of World War II, the U.S. Army had lightweight and lightly armed vehicles, called “scout cars,” for advanced reconnaissance activities. Developed during the war, the M-8 Greyhound armored car, characterized by increased protection and heavier armament, represented a turning point for the American army. The vehicle provided greater operational flexibility and could be more effectively used to support ground troops thanks to the 37mm cannon installed in the turret. First used on the Italian front, from Monte Cassino to Anzio, it later participated in the D-Day operations in June 1944. Although the terrain in Normandy proved challenging and demanding during the initial phases of the operation, later on the M-8 was particularly appreciated for its speed of movement and versatility in deployment. The M-20 version was developed from the M8 version for Military Police duties and command vehicle roles.

1/72 FW 190 D-9

NEW DECALS EDITION: SUPER DECALS SHEET FOR 6 VERSIONS – COLOR INSTRUCTION SHEET

FIGURIE INCLUDED – CONTAINS 1 MODEL

The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 was one of the best aircraft produced during World War II. Manufactured in more than 20,000 units starting from 1941, it was, alongside the Messerschmitt Bf 109, the most renowned fighter aircraft of the Luftwaffe. In its early versions, such as the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-8, the fighter was equipped with a BMW 801 D-2 double-row radial engine with 14 cylinders, delivering 1,700 horsepower, enabling it to reach a top speed of 653 km/h. Over time, designers capitalized on the successful aerodynamic structure of the aircraft, achieving what can be considered its ultimate evolution. The adoption of the powerful liquid-cooled Junkers Jumo 213 12-cylinder engine necessitated a revision of the aircraft’s design, resulting in an elongated nose. The D version was aptly nicknamed by Luftwaffe pilots as “Langnasen-Dora” (Long-nose Dora), but once in flight, they immediately appreciated its characteristics and capabilities. The FW-190D was indeed capable of competing on equal terms with the most modern Allied fighters, such as the renowned P-51D Mustang.

The Shipcraft series will be familiar to many, but for those who aren’t, the idea behind the books is to provide concise information about a specific subject, providing heavily illustrated reference material and in-depth modelling information including line drawings and color profiles. This latest 64-page paperback volume in the series features a bevvy of British aircraft carriers from the 20s through the 40s, specifically, HMS Hermes, HMS Ark Royal and the Illustrious Class. These ships were the first British carriers designed as such from the beginning, as opposed to others ships that were converted either on the stocks or post-build. Hermes, indeed, was the first in the World to be so designed, although her completion took so long that she wasn’t the first to actually enter service.

“As of October 2023, there were almost 43 thousand female servicemen in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Ukraine has one of the highest rates of women in the armed forces among the armies of the world, including NATO armies. In the past, women primarily served in auxiliary positions such as doctors, signalmen, or cooks. However, with the onset of full-scale hostilities in February 2022, more and more women have taken on combat roles such as driving combat vehicles, operating grenade launchers, machine guns, snipers, and drones. Many women also serve as commanders of combat vehicles, units, and reconnaissance groups. Lieutenant General Serhiy Naiev, the Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, emphasizes, “What unites them all is that they are true Ukrainian women who could not stay at home when their Motherland cried out for help to the world.

MGPC Episode 75 "You've lost that loving feeling".

ModelGeek's Podcast - Sun, 04/07/2024 - 08:00

Welcome to Episode 75 of The Modelgeeks Podcast!

In this episode, the Modelgeeks, the Geeks will make their usual lap in the pattern and talk about new kits they acquired, and will discuss and debate the latest model news and new products and go over a few listener emails.  For the Geeks main discussion, the Geeks discuss what leads you to lose interest in a model and results in a model not getting finished.

Darrin and El Presidente made the journey to Ontario Canada for HertageCon 16 and have a sit down with Andy Kline from Andy's  Hobby Headquarters and get him to spend some time with the Geeks and gives his take on the show and even makes an announcement while sitting with the Geeks.

We would like to thank all the listeners for the continued support you have given the show. We hope to see you out and about as we hit some of the shows or if you decide to come visit ours in October. If you use the Micro Set/Sol combination for decal work like I have for years then you have (if you're honest), tipped the small round bottles they come in. While there are some other holders out there, Charles Plastic Models has given us a truly useful combination holder. Not only are there inserts for the Micro decal solutions, but this product also includes a port for the round Solvaset bottle and two bays for the square decal set bottles from Tamiya or Mr. Hobby. Several panel liner and weather solutions also come in the same size square bottles. Behind these are openings for brushes, tools, and anything else you use for decals and liners.

This is the author’s seventh book for Harpia Publications on Chinese military aviation and complements several of his earlier volumes by providing a more in-depth look at the Su-27/J-11 “Flanker” aircraft in Chinese service, including China’s acquisition, development, and operational use of the aircraft.

Since the first satellite images of the prototype Su-27 were released, the aircraft has evolved into one of the most capable and versatile fourth-generation aircraft. Over the years there have multiple variants developed by the Russians – Su-27, Su-30, Su-33, Su-34, and Su-35. It is often overlooked that the Chinese aviation industry has also developed several variants of its own, some paralleling those of Russia, but others being specifically tailored to China’s needs.

Detail and Wonder is a new aftermarket company; they currently list The F-35 (Tamiya), F-4 (Meng), and recently the F-16 heavyweight (for later F-16C variants, Tamiya and by default, Kinetic) as target improvements for their products, producing landing gear with integral Wheels/tires/struts, Exhaust Nozzles, and some intake/exhaust FOD (Foreign Object Damage) prevention plugs. The subject of this review is the F-35A landing gear set; IPMS USA appreciates D&W providing us this set for review!
