Heartland Model Car Nationals

The 2026 Heartland Model Car Nationals will be the 34th show put on by the KC Slammers Model Car Club based in Kansas City, KS. Our 2025 show had 40 display tables of models with over 70 entrants and 87 vendor tables with tons of model car kits, aftermarket parts, tools, etc. for sale. We have 28 separate classes and 15 Master Awards, including the Heartland Champion award. The Overland Park Convention Center, Overland Park, KS is a great venue with plenty of parking, nearby restaurants and lodging. We create a PowerPoint-based awards show with photos of the Class winning and Master Award winning models along with the entrant's name and class sponsor. It is simply a great show put on by fellow car modelers and we even have a class called "Military (automotive related)…any non-track, automotive-style vehicle used by any military force from any nation." for our fellow military modelers. Our 2026 theme is "TRUCKS" Here’s the scoop on this theme. All kinds of trucks from mini-pickups to Dump Trucks, Monster Trucks, Semis, all kinds of Pickups, Kustom Trucks, Show Trucks and  YOU NAME IT! If it’s a truck, build it and bring it to our 34th Heartland Show and bring it to the BEST Model Car Show in the Midwest, almost dead center in the middle of the U.S. If you haven’t been to a Heartland Model Car Nationals you just haven’t been to the best model car show in the U.S. We work very hard to put this show on and it’s an “all-hands-on-deck” operation. We hope you’ll join us. YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS THIS ONE!

Route 66 Model Expo

The Rt. 66 Expo serves as our annual celebration of our shared hobby, we like to think of it as our clubs’ annual holiday. Every year, we look forward to inviting modelers to share their work, make new friends, and find inspiration for new builds.

An Exhibitor Experience

Models will be displayed by modeler, not category. Additionally, modelers’ names will be displayed with their works. All attendees will be given a name tag to make connecting with your favorite builders even easier.

Higher Quality Evaluations

We believe that modelers should receive both positive and constructive feedback from our judges as a tool to help them achieve their personal goals in the hobby. For 2026, the fixed entry fee will include four evaluations per modeler. Limiting each entrants’ evaluations will allow judges to focus on providing a better evaluation experience for attendees.  Additionally, entrants are encouraged to showcase additional models in their display, providing attendees with a comprehensive overview of their work.

Three Award Tiers

The Rt. 66 Expo will feature 3 levels of awards for modelers to earn.

  • GSB: All evaluated entries will be eligible to earn a Gold, Silver, or Bronze Challenge coin, commensurate with the level of work presented.
  • Master Awards: The traditional “Best of Awards” will recognize the most outstanding evaluated  entries in their respective classes and present the Best of Show award to the most exceptional winner.
  • Special Awards: These awards will recognize “Outstanding” builds that incorporate unique themes, regardless of whether they are evaluated or displayed.

Easy Online Registration

Entrants can skip the registration desk and quickly get their models on the display tables by completing their forms online before the show. Registration will open in late March!
