New hobby shop mapping project in the works

We have begun a project that will hopefully become a useful tool for our members. We are compiling a list of hobby shops to incorporate into an online, graphic database (much like the one we now have for upcoming contests and shows) containing all the pertinent data for local hobby shops recommended by our MEMBERS. Ideally, this list will consist of more than just the locations of local Michaels or Hobby Town franchises and will provide members with info about what makes the store of interest to our hobby, hours of operation and a description of what the store carries.

New IPMS/USA Treasurer

IPMS/USA is proud to announce that Mike Oberholtzer has accepted the position of Treasurer.  He has been an IPMS member since the late 1980’s, served as treasurer for the IPMS Chicago Sprue Stretchers for more than 15 years, and is a senior national judge.  Mike has worked in all areas of banking from the teller line to Information Technology and at banks both small and gigantic.

New IPMS/USA Mailing Address

The new IPMS/USA mailing address is:

PO Box 56023St. Petersburg, FL 33732-6023

Mail sent to the North Canton, Ohio address will be forwarded to the new address but that may cause delays in replies or processing of membership forms.

Elimination of the IPMS/USA Make and Take Program

As any member who has attended the past few Business Meetings at the National Convention could tell you, the Make and Take program has been an ongoing item of discussion in terms of cost and benefits to the Society. While the intent of MnT has always been to recruit new/young members, no correlation has been established between participation in a MnT and subsequent enrollments. In spite of this, the program was continued because of the local goodwill it was perceived to generate.

IPMS/USA is Looking For a Treasurer

This is an appointed position that serves on the Executive Board with duties that center around collecting and disbursing all monies, keeping detailed accounts of any and all transactions, publishing in the Journal an annual financial report and working with our accountant in the preparation of annual tax returns. Applicants should have a good working knowledge of accepted book keeping practices, literacy in computer accounting programs such as QuickBooks and the ability to be bonded by the society.

MJ Kinney

Mary Jane Kinney, the IPMS/USA Office Manager, passed away on October 14.

MJ was the face of our organization to our members and to those outside our organization. We will miss her sense of humor, willingness to help our members, and her tolerance of the uniqueness of our members.

Our condolences to her family and friends on their loss.

A remembrance page has been created on the forum for those who would like to share a story.

UPDATED: Make N Take Temporarily Resumed

From Larry Randal in https://forum.ipmsusa3.org/index.php?/topic/15451-news-make-n-take-program-suspended/?p=83277

Thanks to the generosity of Dick Christ, he will order through his hobby shop (Hobby Depot in Tempe, AZ) and we are able to resume the program at least temporarily. I also note many great ideas being generated on the IPMS Facebook page and thank everyone for their suggestions that we will look into.
