Minutes
  • DL called the meeting to order at 7:08PM, CDT.
  • DL nominated John Figueroa, current RC of Region 4 for approval as the new DLC to replace Jeff Neal, who resigned at the National Convention in Omaha.  Board approval was unanimous.
  • DL indicated that Mike Mackowski, RC of Region 10 is stepping down.  He will be replaced by Tony Humphries.
  • Moving forward, all RCs will need to be proficient in using the Wild Apricot membership system.  DL will revise the job description and responsibilities for the RCs next quarter.
  • PP confirmed he is working on a charter for the IPMS Reviewer Corps with some former 1st VPs.
  • JB indicated he has attended several shows since the Nats and has received several comments from members regarding the transparency and the good job being done by this Executive Board.
  • JB has been working on the RFP document for Nationals Hosting and will be completed by the end of October.  It will include a fill-in-the-blank template for financial information as well as one for the in-person slide presentation.  This will make things much easier for hosting groups to prepare proposals.  Much of the future Nats planning responsibilities will be assumed by the NCSC, the 2nd VP and the Executive Board in the future, allowing for easier facilitation for local hosting groups.
  • The NCSC Charter is being re-worked to include more members for specialization, including:
    • Industry Liaison
    • Vendor Coordinator
    • Venue Planning Coordinator
    • Seminars/Activities Coordinator
    • Finance/Cash Flow
    • Awards/Merch Coordinator
    • Social Media/Community Engagement Coordinator
  • Making a big effort to reach out to the Gundam/Gunpla community to participate in the Nats with seminars and demos.
  • Working with Marriott corporate rep to identify potential venues for future Nats events around the country.  JB will forward those locations to appropriate chapters/regional groups for consideration in future hosting proposals.
  • JB & RB are attending Scale Model World in Telford, UK on November 12-13 (Note: they are attending at their own cost).  They will be meeting with the UK E-Board to discuss matters of mutual interest concerning IPMS.
  • There are 4-6 groups currently looking at bidding for the 2025 Nats location.  This may facilitate a return to a regular rotation.
  • MO gave the Treasurer’s report.  All is good.  We do need to push to get vendor payments in for tables at the 2023 show.
  • RA indicates the Journal is running on schedule for the next issue.  Next year we should actually get ahead of schedule.
  • RA asked that the membership consider writing articles.
  • Working with Sprue Brothers and Fine Scale Modeler on cross promotions.
  • Postal report for the Journal has been filed, and will be in the Journal moving forward.
  • DK indicated memberships are now + 4,600.
  • DK asked that all chapters reach out to local Gundam communities to participate.
  • 25 and 50 yr membership pins being distributed with letter from DL.
  • DK indicated that Ralph Forehand recently passed away. Memorial piece to be put in future Journal.
  • MVS indicated that membership system is working well for updates and new memberships.
  • Working on organizing stock of old journals to put on the webstore along with name badges for sale.
  • RB indicated that the C&BL update is complete with the exception of the 3 charters needing revision.  Should be completed by month’s end, and ready for membership review and comment.
  • RB & Mark Persichetti met via Zoom to continue discussing the Mathes NCC judging paper.  MP Is reviewing with his team and will get back to the E-Board with recommendations for the proposed committees moving forward.  RB is tabulating the membership respnses.
  • RB and JB will be taking several IPMS 2023 Challenge Coins designed by Stan Spooner to Telford to place next to deserving models with a small invitation card to promote the Nats in San Marcos next summer.  The challenge coins will also be distributed to E-Board members to do the same at local shows they attend between now and next summer.
  • MVS attended the Orlando show recently and noted only 2 Junior entries.  Other than that it was a great show.
  • DL adjourned the meeting at 8:19PM CDT.

The next quarterly meeting of the IPMS/USA Executive Board will be held via Zoom on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at 6:00PM CST.  The membership is encouraged to provide input or feedback at ipmssec@ipmsusa.org.
