Since the 1920's, John Browning's M2 family of heavy machine guns has proven itself a reliable and effective weapon, and has actively served with dozens of militaries. Even to this day variants are deployed with U.S. frontline forces.

Given it's longevity, the M2 heavy machine gun is a staple to the modeler of U.S. and Allied armor.

Pavla's rendition of the M2 is cast from two blocks - the weapon itself and a second block containing a pair of ammo boxes (one open, the other closed). Delicately molded all pieces require careful handling. The ring on the underside of the review M2 was easily flecked away during paint prep - and was lost forever. Also, the yoke fractured at the slightest application of pressure during cleanup. Similarly on the ammo cans, the outer bottom edge of one disintegrated while gently sanding with a 600 grit sanding stick. Detail of the parts is average, and not notably better than many found in kits since the late 70's.

Although maybe not a first choice for replacing kit M2's, this Pavla piece is perfectly viable for dioramas and adding to "upgunned" vehicles.

Recommend this M2 - and really gentle handling - to modelers looking for a little more firepower.

Thanks to Pavla for the review sample.
