1/32 British and German WWI Pilots

They are from Belgium and have a growing selection of pilot figures in several popular scales. I am going to review two of their newest ones. They are an English pilot and a German pilot both from World War I. They fill a gap that has been largely ignored, especially with the popularity of WWI aircraft kits in 1/32 being produced in the last two years. The kits are very simple to assemble. Each one consists of a body, two arms, two legs, and two heads. One head is wearing his goggles down and the other has his goggles up. Painting the one with the goggles down eliminates the need to paint the eyes, which seem to be the trouble spot with some painters. The casting blocks are in a convenient position and therefore require very little cleaning up of the parts once the blocks are removed. Fit of the parts is perfect, with no gaps showing when assembled. With each kit there is a photo of a finished figure. I used this as a guide when painting them. With the German pilot, I used Model Master leather to paint the leather-flying suit. I had to use dullcoat to tone down the gloss of this color. I used Vallejo and Andrea acrylics for the rest of the painting and artist’s oils for the face. I was a bit disappointed in the details as they were not a crisp and precise as most of the figures I have painted. This applied to both of these pilots. The English pilot was painted entirely with the same acrylics except for the face that was painted with the artist’s oils. I would say that both pilots would look great in any of the 1/32 WW I aircraft out there. I would recommend them if they are to be placed inside an aircraft but their lack of fine detail would not allow them to be used as a stand alone figure.
