Well, I was in need of a quick little weekend project, and this one seemed to fit the bill. Moebius has re-released the B9 Robot, from their Lost in Space Chariot, as a stand alone kit. In fact, it includes the same parts numbers and looks like the sprues were actually cut from the original kit molds. An interesting bit of marketing on Moebius’ part to say the least. As far as the kit goes, it is fairly nice for its size. At 1/24 scale, the completed model stands just about 3” tall. Lots of included clear parts would make it an easy kit to light if one felt so inclined.

Assembly was straight forward. The part fit was very good, with the only noticeable seams being where the two halves of the upper torso and the lower “legs” meet. A little work with a sanding stick pretty much cleared that up. The instructions are made up of an exploded view with short descriptions on the back of the box; and do not include a painting guide. I used some reference photos found around the web for the colors, and airbrushed a base coat of AutoAir fine aluminum over all of the opaque parts, and then hand brushed the details with some dark gray, red, yellow, orange, and green. I followed this up with a burnt umber wash to bring out the details a little bit, and added the clear bits with some Testor’s Window cement.

I only found a couple of nit-picks about this model. One, the arms are depicted in the stowed position. I think some more interesting arms would have been a big improvement even at this small size. And Two, I really don’t know how one would display this small model as a stand alone piece. It’s great as an included accessory with the Chariot and would be equally good if it were included with the Jupiter 2; but on its own, it’s a little small and somewhat simplified for my tastes.

Thank you to Moebius Models for the review sample.
