This set of 1/35th scale figures contains parts for four figures plus an assortment of web gear and weapons. The figures are, as one can tell by the item name, German soldiers in summer uniforms representing troops seen at Stalingrad. For the aircraft builders, please note there aren't any Ju-87s in the box.

The figures are posed as a small group of soldiers engaged in laying out a swastika flag as a reference for Ju-87 pilots. Each figure is in a different pose which, when displayed together, creates a realistic vignette.

[review image] The figures require assembly. The arms, legs, trunk, and head are all separate parts. While the separate parts fit nicely the fact that the figures are not molded in a single piece results in some extra work in order to cover the seams.

The parts require a considerable amount of clean up. The legs and arms all have flash that must be carefully removed prior to assembly and painting. The various items that the soldiers have clipped to their web gear will also require to some clean-up. Each part will need some touch-up at the attachment point holding it to the part-tree.

[review image] There is not a set of kit instructions, in the traditional sense. The assembly instructions are shown on the reverse side of the box. There are no part numbers on the part tree. In order to identify a particular part one will need to study the illustration on the box, which shows the part tree and has a number which printed next to each part in the illustration. It is a cumbersome manner in which to identify the parts but it is not that difficult to master.

Conclusion:

Cons:

The lack of part numbers on the part tree makes part identification less certain. The amount of clean up required removing the flash along the arms and legs will slow the completion of the figures.

Pros:

The body parts fit nicely and the web gear and assorted items also fit well. The figures are molded in such a way that after assembly one has four figures that appear lifelike and flexible rather than stiff and artificial. There is sufficient surface detail on the clothing and on the faces to give the painter some help with the application of shadow and highlight.

These figures are not the best figures on the market but they are inexpensive and can produce figures that can enhance any Stalingrad scene. This item is recommended for the modeler with a moderate level of experience and skill.

My thanks to Dragon Models USA for the review sample.
