The A6M5 Japanese Zero..... Almost every scale model manufacturer in every scale and from every form of materials, from wood to plastic to resin, has produced some variant of this aircraft. Even aftermarket companies have jumped all over this aircraft with anything that could improve or enhance these kits from flaps to wheels to decals. One would think that it’s all been done! Well, not so! Eli Raphael has found an interesting twist on his enhancements. This is a set of decals of the major Japanese Aces who flew this aircraft in WWII. This set of decals has been added to his inventory of other unique decal sets for different aircraft.

This particular set, “A6M5 ‘Gekitsuio’ aircraft” comes in 1/48 & 1/32 scale. It has markings for five different aircraft and also included is a large card which depicts color pictures of the aircraft of which the decals were copied from along with information as to who flew that aircraft, how many kills and other small bits of facts. Even the color scheme for each individual aircraft is recommended.

The quality of these decals is superb. The colors are excellently reproduced as well as them being in perfect registry. After using the Micro Scale method, they look as if they were painted on. These decals are very thin and yet the background colors do not show through. However, I would suggest trying to place them where you want them as quickly as possible in order to prevent tearing from moving them around.

These decals are MOST HIGHLY recommended.

This set can be seen on the Zotz website along with the other decal themes which, to me, almost makes you want to buy the aircraft kit just to use these decals. I feel I should also mention that the artwork which is done on the front of the cards in every decal set is just fantastic. These alone are worth framing and hanging!

My thanks go out to Eli Raphael and Zotz for the great decals to review and to IPMS for having me review them.
