Kits At War has produced 26 excellent aircraft "…military decal sheets for British and Commonwealth subjects for WWII and postwar modelers", in 1/72, 1/48 and 1/32 scales. "All sheets are silk screen printed…in limited editions" and it appears that existing stocks are available from local distributors like Flight Decs on this side of the pond, or primarily the Aviation Megastore located in the Netherlands. With that in mind I would suggest you add any of these decals you want to your collection, before they become scarce and the price goes up!

If you're interested in Mosquitos and Beaufighters then you'll love this sheet. It's crammed (yet with enough space between decals to be used easily) with 20 schemes, but no national markings. Each decal is on its own individual backing with barely any excess carrier film, and with the smallest decals keyed to the illustrations of aircraft. The larger decals even have the carrier film already cut away, i.e. inside the letter P, O and L! The colors appear solid opaque, yet some are provided as two parts to ensure opaqueness and to have you make sure they're properly registered. Some are pre-printed in two or three colors with dead on registration. The decals come in a recloseable poly envelope.

The instructions consist of a large two sided, black and white 11" x 16" plus one one-sided 8.5 x 11 sheet. Each aircraft is illustrated both left and right-hand profiles, plus standard topside pattern illustration for the Beaufighters and two alternate topsides for the Mosquitos. Each aircraft is identified by type and unit, and some indicate the pilot. Interestingly, a Beaufighter X is shown with and without invasion stripes (the measurement for the invasion bands width is given) that included a change in fuselage codes.

The pilots are only identified on three of the 20 aircraft. Since these decals were produced in the Netherlands, it's expected that Mosquito XIII of F/O Chr. Vlotman, leading Dutch night fighter's markings are included. Legendary Sqn. Leader John Cunningham's Beaufighter is included with an oft-overlooked gray number 3 for its cowlings. According to my Beaufighter source below, Kits At War missed an opportunity to provide up to 16 swastika kills marked on one of his later Beau's rudders. I have no information handy on Pilot Flt/Sgt Butler's Beaufighter X of 144 Sqn., but his "PL O" is interesting with a painted out fin flash and invasion stripes.

I prefer to build models of aces' aircraft or those with interesting nose art. The lack of these and lack of complete roundels are the only disappointments I had. If you're happy with building less famous Beau's and Mossies, then you have some true value for your money with high quality decals at less than $1 per aircraft!
