This sheet of markings is for VMFA-122 (The Werewolves) out of Beaufort South Carolina. This group used to be known as the Crusaders which is remembered by the sword at the top of the COs' vertical stabilizer. The 3 options offered are:
  1. S/N 164264 01 This is the CO's plane which is the most colorful. The werewolf really shows up on the black vertical stabilizer and is pretty ominous with the full moon behind it and wolf's red eyes.
  2. S/N 164247 00 This aircraft still has some color to it but the tail markings are a little more fun than the rest of the squadron. There is a caricature of a wolf flying what looks like a bottle rocket.
  3. 5. S/N 164271 05 This aircraft is the normal low vis scheme where all of the markings are in grey.
[review image] I decided to model the COs' plane because it is the most colorful. It uses FS36375 on the top and FS36320 on the bottom. I'm always looking for unusual tail markings that depict creatures such as dragons, werewolves and the like. Not just because I like them, but because my wife does too. This tends to gain some real-estate around the house for displaying the finished product.

The decals are "proudly printed by MicroScale". They're thin, they're on register, and they go onto the aircraft and stay where you put them. Did I say hey're also very thin? I had the jet warning decal fold over in half as I tried to put it on. It's a tribute to the toughness of the decal film that it still went on the plane and stayed there after I got it straightened out.

[review image] The white "werewolves" on the tails of the CO's aircraft looks like it's got a problem. But the photos show that there's weathering on the white paint, and the decals look like the actual letters on the F/A-18.

The instructions are very good and they include photographs of the actual aircraft. This is a plus and is standard with all of the Two Bobs decal sets. You can be sure that each aircraft is thoughly researched and all markings are accounted for. This set has a note on it that the names of the pilots and crew were left off at the request of VMFA-122 and for NOFORN/OPSEC reasons. In this set, there was an addendum added that included the previously omitted data. The sheet also includes a little history of the squadron, which is also a Two Bobs standard, as well as a list of model kits and accessories that are out there.

Very Highly recommended.

The very first review that I did for IPMS was the Two Bobs wrap around Thuds. I was so impressed with those decals that I went to their web site and ordered a few more sheets. I am proud to say that this set does not disappoint.

Thanks to Bob Sanchez and Twobobs for making the decals and to IPMS/USA for letting me review a set of decals from a manufacturer that I really like and to me for the cost of the sheet.
