In the early 1980’s, modified F-15A’s were equipped to carry the ASM-135A ASAT. The mission was to supersonic zoom climb at an angle of 65 degrees to an altitude of 38,100 feet where the weapon was launched to intercept and destroy a low orbiting satellite. The project was canceled by President Regan in 1988 after five test firings because of technical problems, testing delays and significant cost overruns.

[review image] The decal sheets cover two specific F-15C’s that were used in the test program as well as the evolution of the "stars and bars" and program markings carried on the tail. The full spectrum decal sheets appear to be screen printed with a narrow carrier. Print registration is excellent with crisp detail and the pigment thickness renders them opaque on the two toned gray model. The package contains a large sheet of the markings for the F-15 and is divided into four sections. Two are specific program markings, one is for general F-15 markings, and the last has markings for an ASM-135A. A small sheet is included with the pilot’s name that flew the test missions. Markings for an inert test missile occupies the third sheet. Also in the package is a full color double sided decal placement page which includes a program history. It clearly shows the marking location for the two test aircraft and the inert and live fire missiles. Twobobs also included a list of the F-15 kits, resin, masks and photo etched accessories available. A resin ASAT missile with pylon is available from Twomikes Resin Accessories. http://www.twomikesresin.com.

The quality of this decal offering has sent me searching my collection for that 1/48 F-15A kit I’ve been hanging on to. The decals, a resin missile, and one of the many excellent F-15A/C kits available will put a unique bit of Air Force history on your model shelf.

My thanks to Bob Sanchez and Twobobs for the review sample- get the missile and have fun with this one.
