This 144 page hard cover book has six chapters covering the task and requirements to preserve the Avro Lancaster bomber. The Avro Lancaster is a legend in Royal Air Force aviation history and this lavish pictorial history celebrates and pays tribute to the huge contribution it made during World War 2. Developed during the early years when Britain's only means of taking the offensive to Germany was through the RAF's strategic night bombing campaign, the first Lancaster mission in 1942 and the aircraft instant success. By the end of the war the Lancaster carried out 156,000 missions and dropped over 600,000 tons of bombs.

The author Peter C. Smith provides a masterful study of this most famous aircraft, thoroughly researched and well illustrated and black and white, color photographs and technical drawings and illustrations. The forward is written by Ron Clark, DFC, Lancaster pilot, "The Phantom of the Ruhr", No 100 Squadron. The chapter breakdown of the book:
