What we have here is the first in a new series of books that will cover one aircraft in its USAF and USANG service. Volume 1 covers the LTV A-7D/K Corsair II, it’s also been announced that the next volume will cover the F-105. The introduction (10 pages) looks at the development and operational use of the Corsair II with the USAF. The next 37 pages covers the six USAF units that operated the Corsair II, each unit’s history is covered with several pages of color photos follows devoted to that unit. The following units are chronicled: 23rd TFW, 57th FWW, 58th TFTW, 354th TFW, 355th TFW and the AFSC/Test Wings.

The largest section of this work covers the Corsair II in use with the United States Air National Guard (USANG). Following a two page history of the Corsair II with the USANG, designated units are covered with a brief history followed by several pages of color photos of the unit aircraft, for a total of 72 pages. The following ANG units are examined: AZ ang 152nd TFS/195th TFTS/ 162nd TFG, CO ang 120th TFS-140th TFW, IA ang 124th TFS-132nd TFW, IA ang 174th TFS-185th TFW, MI ang 107th TFS-127th TFW, NM ang 188th TFW-150th TFG, OH ang 112th TFS-180th TFG, OH ang 162nd TFS-178th TFG, OH ang 166th TFS-121st TFW, OK ang 125th-138th TFG, PA ang 146th TFS-112th TFG, PR ang 198th TFS-156th TFG, SC ang 157th TFS-169th TFG, SD ang 175th TFS-114th TFG, VA ang 149th TFS-192nd TFG.

This book covers a lot of territory, mainly visually with excellent color photos of the various units’ aircraft. In addition, eleven pages of walk around photos contain a wealth of details for the A-7D and A-7K, followed lastly with four pages that present the four types of camouflage schemes flown by the Corsair II during its operational service.

If you are going to make models of the A-7D/K then this book is a treasure, and you can do no better than to use it as a reference, while the text (English and German) is brief it is very concise, informative and useful. Perhaps one of the decal companies will use this book to come out with some decals to cover your favorite unit. I can highly recommend this book and if the other volumes are as good then this series will be one to collect. In the US both Victory Models (www.victorymodels.com) and Linden Hill Imports (www.lindenhillimports.com) carries this product.

I want to thank IPMS/USA and Double Ugly! Books for the chance to review this book.
