"Swab-Its"® and Super Brush Foam Applicators

This is an update to this review to let you know that Super Brush has added a new online retail store (see link above & below) where 25 and 50 count quantities of their most popular foam swabs can be purchased. I found Super Brush in the Hobby Merchandiser Directory a month or so ago and thought their product line might be of interest to IPMS members. So I contacted Ms. Lenora Taylor, Product Manager at Super Brush, and after a very nice conversation a package of swab and brush samples arrived for review. Many of us modelers lurk about in arts and craft stores, at the cosmetics counter, and other places looking for tools, materials and techniques that can be used in our hobby (I find it somewhat ironic that the airbrush has become the tool of choice in today's nail salon…). Anyway, you've no doubt seen foam applicators in the makeup section that are used to apply cosmetics, liner, etc. Some modelers have already adopted these disposable products for everything from applying pastel weathering products to dabbing on Luftwaffe mottling. Well, the fine folks at Super Brush have a product for every conceivable application, pun fully intended. I photographed a range of samples to give you an idea of the broad range of shapes, sizes and applicator heads available to you. The 73-001 Swab-It® spear applicator has a tiny, relatively firm point ideal for applying small amounts of paint (or glue, or kicker) in tight quarters. The 73-003 applicator, with a broader, rectangular head, would work very well for applying decal setting solutions. I was able to apply a coat of Future to both surfaces of an already installed windscreen using the angled applicator shown, and I could see how an armor builder could swab mud and dust into AFV running gear quite handily. Bottom line … if you're looking for a series of disposable (yet durable and reusable) applicators, for just about anything us modelers stick, dribble, shake, blot or dab on our projects, check these out.
