They're back! The FlexiDisplay Stand came out several years ago, and in June, 2006, Lost and Found Toys, Inc. purchased the manufacturing rights for the stand. When it was originally introduced, it was only available in the 4 inch version, but now it comes in three sizes. I remember seeing them at various contests and conventions, but never really paid them a lot of attention. Now that I've had an opportunity to "play" with them, I appreciate what I had ignored earlier. They are really unique items, and have an unending list of uses. Of course, they were originally designed with displaying aircraft models, but your imagination is your only boundary. They can be used to display virtually anything, and they are attractive while doing it!

[review image] The stands come boxed in 2.5", 4" and 6" tall versions. All three are in the same size box, so you have to look to see which size you've got. When you open the box, you find a very nice clear plastic vacuformed tray with three rods, a base, a retainer, and a small bag with three screws and three large washers. [review image] The stand bases and rods are made out of clear acrylic, and they are some of the clearest I have ever seen. I was almost afraid to handle them for fear of scratching them. The three rods have rubber tips on one end and a metal ball on the pivot end. Assembly takes all of two or three minutes with the help of a small Phillips screw driver. The three supports are adjustable, and tightening the three screws allows you to freeze them in place or allow them to be easily moved. You can easily place the rods in a position to display an aircraft in a dive, climb or bank. Surprisingly, the rubber tips on the rods hold the model very firmly. And, it seems like the larger the model is, the better it rests on the stand. If you want to display a model where the underside can be seen without handling, this is it!

The rubber tips are surprisingly "grippy". You have to be careful when moving the stand with a model on it, but if you're careful, you can rotate the base with a model displayed. And, they are surprisingly stable. The bases are big enough that there is no danger of the base toppling over. The FlexiDisplays were previously available with a round base, but it proved to be a little unstable. They are currently working on a modification of the round base version.

My thanks to Carlos A. Laos, Jr. for sending the FlexiDisplays to me and allowing me to review them. If you want to go to his web site, it's www.LAFtoys.com. All of his products are shown, and currently (February 3, 2007) he has $4.00 off the regular price on each of the stands.
