I am a recent convert to masks, having been a long time user of several liquid mask products.  My approach has always been that armed with a new #11 Exacto blade and a steady hand you can mask any complex canopy.  However, not everyone is that adept with a knife, especially around glazing.  I have scratched my fair share of canopies with a slip of the blade.  Certainly the large greenhouse canopies of US Naval aircraft and the multiple glazing on most WWII bombers can test your eyesight, steadiness, and patience.

That is where a good set of precision pre-cut masks, like those of Cutting Edge, can make the hobby more enjoyable.  This batch of masks is some of their recent releases and demonstrated the wide range of kits for which Meteor has produced masks.  Masks for complex glazing like the Martin Maryland and the H-21 are a must, especially if you are the least bit ham-handed; one slip and you have marred the “glass”.  Pre-cut masks make the job of masking simpler canopies like the P-40 easier as well.  While there are not as many frames, the masks still help yield crisp framing.  But call me old fashioned however, in that I don’t think that masks are required for every kit.  Pre-cut masks for a modern jet canopy in my opinion are nice but unnecessary, better to save you money for decals, resin or photo-etch.

Meteor Productions has been tirelessly producing masks for about every aircraft kit on the market.  They fit well and are easily to apply and remove.  Highly recommended.
