Here's a first glance at one of Hasegawa's newest releases, the 1/48 scale Fw-190A-4. Upon initial inspection of the contents, this looks to be a kit based on the same tooling of the A-3 variant, which is to be expected. If the comparison between these two kits is correct, then this kit should turn out to be a very enjoyable build.

Upon opening the box, the following items were found: one instruction sheet with detailed explanations and easy to follow directions, one bag containing six plastic sprues molded in gray styrene, and one bag containing a set of clear parts and decal markings for two different aircraft.

The grey styrene parts were found with virtually no flash except for one small spot on the bottom portion of the wing and will be in no way difficult to remove. The parts show very good detail and have recessed panel lines. One small complaint I have is the lack of a decal or molded in seat restraints for the cockpit seat. I plan on replacing this with a True Details resin seat with just a tad more detail. Aside from that, the provided parts for the cockpit are very detailed, and the instrument panel is one of the nicest and most detailed styrene panels I have ever seen in any WWII era kit.

The decals provided in the kit have a very good color registry and are extremely sharp. Markings for two different machines from JG54 are provided and are listed below.
1) JG54 Kommodore Major Hannes Trautloft, Russia, Winter 1942/1943
2) JG54 Kommodore Major Hubertus von Bonin, Russia, Estonia 1943

I am extremely excited about building this kit. It looks beautiful in the box, and I'm sure it will look even more spectacular once it is put together. If the A-4 is similar to the A-3 variant this kit is sure to impress no matter your skill level.

I'd like to thank Hasegawa and IPMS for allowing me the chance to review this beautiful kit.

Highly Recommended!
