In addition to a fine line of 1/76 (and 28mm) resin vehicles, guns, missiles and engineering “funnies” add-ons, Shaun Matthews’ U.K. S&S Models produces white metal WWII German Tank and AFV Crew figure sets, a modern Russian A/A Gun Crew and three different 10 pack sets of Stowage.  The four sets of German crew reviewed are AFV Crew (2 full and 2 half figures), Open SP Crew (4 full figures and 6 assorted shells), Light Flak Crew (5 full figures) and Driver and Passengers (5 full figures).  They look scale 1/76 but depending upon the vehicle and other figures you use, should crew your 1/72 models just as well (real people come in different sizes too, you know)!  They’re pleasingly properly proportioned too – no big heads here.

I easily cleaned up the little flash and seam lines with an Xacto (unlike soft-plastic figures) and primed them before painting.  There’s no assembly aside from laying the rounds in two of the SP Crew’s arms (this crew was designed especially to fit the cramped open space of a Stummel or other German S.P. Gun).  Detail is amazingly better than some 1/35 figures I’ve seen!  Helmets, service caps, field caps and sidecaps are realistically undercut and some have raised cockades and eagles as appropriate.  Some of the men wear awards like the Iron Cross, and are equipped with goggles, headphones with wires, binoculars and holsters.  One of the Passengers is a Rommel-esque V.I.P.  The ammo rounds (two each of three types) are serious too, sporting fine engraved rings where the projectiles meet the casing and can be bought separately at 10 for £1.00.

The stowage sets are £1.00 for a set of ten mixed items.  Shaun said he has 30 different accessories so you’d have to buy three sets to have them all.  They include bed rolls, Jerry cans, camo nets, tarps and boxes that “…can be used for all sorts of periods and scales.” (These are Allied items - ed.)

Packaged in a simple poly bag, I highly recommend each of these excellent additions to your Braille collection for its excellent value.  Thanks to Shaun for the review samples.  Visit and order from them at S&S Models, 22 Briar Close, Burnham on Sea, Somerset, U.K. TA8 1HU. All are great but check fellow on far right holding wired earphone so he can hear, wearing cap insignia and possibly Armor Assault Badge on left pocket.

The two on the left could be drivers, the 3rd is a high ranking officer with a map or papers on his lap and the last is cross-legged.  Note #1 has goggles hanging on his chest.

The seated gunner’s got goggles, and the middle man is kneeling back, looking up with rangefinder – a great pose!

Designed to fit the cramped open space of a German S.P. Gun, even the rounds are detailed.  The officer far right is incredible with raised cockade, eagle, Iron Cross, binoculars.

One each of ten different accessories including belted bed rolls, camo net, tarp, etc.  S+S has 30 different items.
