Snap together kits have been around for a very long time (at least in terms of my existence) and have been improving in quality and number of subjects during that time. I thought that this kit would be a nice diversion for my 7 year old son Andrew as he's also been plugging away at a 1/32nd scale Revell Tornado for several months. Here's Andrew's version of what he liked about the kit :
  1. Why did I pick this kit?  It had stickers instead of decals. Decals take longer.
  2. Was it easy to build?  Yes.
  3. Were there any hard parts?  No not at all. There were 20 parts and they all go on very well.
  4. What was the most fun?  Putting on the stickers.
  5. Why would someone else have fun building this model?  It would be lots of fun with a family member. That I know.
[review image] We constructed this kit throughout the course of one day, with the grand finale being the placement of the decals (stickers). From my perspective of being the "overseer" and watching a 7 year old put this kit together, it went pretty smoothly.

There were times when parts didn't quite snap into place, but a little advice and some scraping of a couple of parts was all that was needed to overcome the hurdles.

The most difficult part of the build was getting the decals (self-adhesive, not water-slide) straight enough on the body. The snake markings are one large decal on each side and getting this long item to not fold or wrinkle did test Andrew's patience. I added a spare hand to help hold things while he lined them up and then also helped him smooth out a few wrinkles.

[review image] Once the last one was in place, the engine noises started and the GTO got a thorough test drive (yes, by Andrew, not me!)

This is definitely a kit that a new modeler, young or old, would find fun and relatively easy to build. A big "Thanks" goes out to Revell and IPMS USA for the review sample!
