[review image] As with most of Revell's car kits the construction begins with the engine. Without being overly complex, the engine is nicely detailed. Twenty-one parts make up the engine assembly. This step is simple and straightforward. The instructions imply painting the parts before assembling them. This is a good idea as it facilitates the build.
[review image] The instructions move on to assembling the suspension, radiator, disk brake and exhaust system to the floor pan. The completed engine is also installed at this time. Much like the engine the suspension is nicely detailed. The only word of caution here is to carefully handle these delicate parts. However, once built up, they are substantial enough. Painting the chassis before adding any of these parts makes painting easier and quicker.

[review image] Assembling the interior is the next step. The seats, console, dashboard and door panels are added to the floor pan. Five parts make up the dashboard assembly. A decal representing the gages fits on a clear piece that installs behind the instrument panel. The effect is quite nice. As stated before it helps to paint the parts before assembly. The interior is now ready to glue on the chassis.

I suggest a deviation from the published building sequence here. Before proceeding to steps 8 through 11, installing the glass, wheels, grillwork, and lights, I suggest the front bumper, side air intakes, and side mirrors be glued to the body at this point. Now the entire body can be painted as a unit. This change eliminates the need to mask the glass, wheels, and grillwork when it comes time to paint the Mustang. Once the body is painted, add the grillwork, headlights, taillights, windows and wheels.

The windshield installation pictorial is not exactly clear. However, with a little trial and error fitting it becomes obvious that the top of the windshield fits on top of the roofline groove and the bottom of the windshield fits underneath the windshield wipers. The secret is to slip the windshield into place from below. The windshield and back window are attached to the sprue not by a small attachment, but by a wide thick attachment. Removing these parts calls for extreme care. Anything else can ruin the part.

[review image] Set the completed body to the frame and return to the instruction's sequence. Adding the other small bits and pieces to the exterior presents no problem. The metal exhaust pipe extensions are a nice touch. The decals are very nice and are easily set in place, albeit some are rather small. The registration is dead on. They really set this model apart from other Mustangs. This kit results in a handsome model that shows very well.

This was an easy and quick build. I can recommend it to the beginner as well as to the accomplished modeler. My sincere appreciation goes to Revell, Inc. for supplying the kit and to IPMS/USA for allowing me to do the review.
