Shelby and the Mustang have a relationship that dates back to the 1960s. Since that time, putting those two names together meant the car with the Shelby label on it was one that meant serious business. The 2007 GT-500 is the most powerful car yet to have the Shelby name across its back. The newest one holds a supercharged 5.4-liter, 32-valve V8 that delivers over 500 horsepower. Even for a Chevy fan like myself, that garners respect!

Revell has released the 2007 version of the GT-500 that takes the previously released 2006 Mustang GT kit and upgrades it with the necessary parts such as a new hood with the air extraction covers, new body, front seats (with cobra emblem) and required engine parts (for the supercharged V-8) to make it the GT-500. Also included is a decal sheet with the factory racing stripes in two colors.

The detail on the kit is on par with the newer Revell kits. Molding is nicely done with small details, such as bulbs in the rear tail lights, included. The parts are molded in white, black, silver and clear. Also included are chromed parts and vinyl tires. A nice extra that Revell includes are metal exhaust tips. These look very nice once on the model!

The instructions are typical Revell line drawings that are easy to follow and the build is done in 14 steps. No issues were encountered during construction.

Build up is also straightforward with no fit issues or flash to deal with. There are some pin marks, but most are in areas that get covered up (with the exception of under the hood). Two things to point out, though. One would be with the windshield installation. You will need to slide it in from under the body and not from the top as shown. Second, the spoiler needs to be flush with the trunk and not elevated as the part is meant to do. I noticed that while driving behind one on the highway. Beyond that, it was easy going.

The decals are probably the most challenging part of the build. It wasn’t because they are bad decals but mainly due to the fact that they are large and go over a lot of the curves and features of the body. I did have to trim some of the front decals as they were too long. Other than that, they lie down very well and respond to setting solution nicely.

This is a great kit that turns out a sharp-looking model. I can easily recommend it and, if you have kids, they also have a 1/32 Snaptite version that the little ones can build along with you. My thanks to Joyce Collier and Revell for the review kit!
