Well, Attack Hobby Kits have done it again.  They have produced another little gem.  This time it is the Czech trainer / attack L-39 Albatros aircraft.  It may be built either as the ZA or the V version.  I’m not sure which is which but one is a trainer and the other is the attack version.

This aircraft is not as small as the MiG-15 I previously reviewed, but is still tiny.  The aircraft has finely engraved panel lines and in this scale they need to be fine.  All the parts fit nicely without hardly any filling needed and no flash to clean up.  You have two options as to cockpits as there are the two previously mentioned variants.  The seats are very nice as are the side instrument consoles.  The canopy is crystal clear with finely engraved canopy framing.  This made it a pleasure to paint.

The landing gear is very fine and looks good with just a wash over the silver paint.  As is expected in 1/144, the undercarriage doors are just a little too thick.  I was also disappointed at not having any undercarriage wells.  This may be too much to ask for in this scale.

One of the nice touches in this kit is the many variations of hard points on the wings.  Several weapon options are included in this model and will lend themselves to building more than one.

The other nice feature is the decals.  The builder has the option of building the aircraft in the markings of Germany, Syria, Nigeria, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic.  The decals are super thin and go on nicely, however I would recommend using Micro Sol otherwise they cannot be moved once they are touched to the model.

I finished my aircraft in the Syrian markings, painting it with Vallejo paints using light gray underneath and dark green, sand and khaki on the upper surfaces.

Overall I am very pleased with this kit.  It was a snap to build and a modeler should be able to build it start to finish in a day.  What a nice diversion from AMS (Advanced Modeler’s Syndrome).  Would I recommend it, you bet.  I would like to thank Attack and John Noack for supplying this kit for review.
