By the time World War II ended, the quad 40mm gun mount was standard armament on most of the large ships of the US Navy. Nothing could put up a wall of flak like this weapon system, and with proximity-fused shells it packed a powerful and accurate punch. The 40mm mount was a complex piece of machinery and up until now has been poorly represented in 1/700 scale kits. Loose Cannon Productions has filled this void with a very detailed resin replacement mount that will significantly improve the look of your battleship, cruiser or aircraft carrier model. This is a single media kit, but the resin components are very detailed. The gun mounts come 5 to a pack, with three pieces to each gun mount (the guns are molded in pairs, so each mount comes with two gun assemblies). The detail of the gun bases is rich, with even the shell ejector chutes represented. They really make the assembly busy looking and with give the gun tub a prototypical crowded look. The guns fit snugly into the trunnion. You may have to clean up a little flash and warm the resin of the gun barrels to remove any warp. Painting the gun platform deck may be a challenge. The resin is durable, and as you can see I had no broken pieces in my example. Overall this is a superb little set that will add a great deal of detail to your 1/700 scale ships. Assembly is simple enough that even a novice will achieve satisfying results. Highly recommended!
