Available in the US from Pacific Front Hobbies.  I would like to thank Jacques Druel for these review samples.

One of the most anticipated 1/350th ship accessories is finally available – the 5in 25 US navy gun.  Why the anticipation?  Before and during the early days of WWII, the 5in25 gun was the principal anti-aircraft gun of the US Navy; it armed all of the battleships, cruisers and the early carriers.  Even with all of the models now available of these ships both in resin and injection molded kits, there has still not been a well-detailed representation of this gun.  Ship modelers were hoping that L’Arsenal, which has made a name for itself with its fine detail and crisp resin casting, would answer the call - they will not be disappointed.

This is a multi-media set with enough resin and photo-etch for four guns.  The breakdown of the resin parts is quite simple.  The gun mount is just two pieces -  the platform and the barrel assembly - but both are extremely detailed.  The platform includes a well executed cradle assembly and fuse setter assembly.  The barrel assembly includes a well-shaped breech and a recoil mechanism that is molded separate from the barrel!  My set came with a spare, 5th barrel in case you damage one.  The parts are perfectly cast with no short casts or air bubbles.  There is only the thinnest of flash of flash present.  The gun platforms are attached to the pour-blocks by on the underside and are easily removed.  The barrels have no pour-blocks present.  The barrel fits perfectly between the trunnions.

The PE set is etched in stainless steel and very petite and will no doubt challenge many modelers’ eyesight and dexterity! Most of the aftermarket sets provide railings for the 5in 25-gun platforms in the available kits. What comes with this set is not only railings, but seats and train and elevation hand wheels as well!

This set will save you a lot of time and effort in improving the detail of your ship model whether you are building LEXINGTON, ARIZONA or one of the many resin models available in 1/350. If you are modeling LEXINGTON you will need three sets; ARIZONA or any other of the Pearl Harbor dreadnoughts only two sets. At nearly $3 a mount these details are not inexpensive but given the effort that I have had to put into creating realistic replicas on my ARIZONA, the price is a bargain. With the prominent location of the 5in 25 guns on LEXINGON, having detailed replacements are a worthwhile investment. You will not regret having a complement of these guns on your model!
