Yellow Wing Decals have produced a series of decal sheets that depict naval aircraft from the "Between the Wars" era. This time period featured some very colorfully painted aircraft in an attempt to provide high visibility, and easy visual recognition. Silver fuselages, yellow upper wings, along with brightly colored section markings were the standard to which Naval aircraft of the day were all painted.

Printed by Microscale, sheet # 48-001 provides markings for US Navy Douglas TBD-1 Devastators of the period 1937-1941 assigned to Section Leaders from VT-2 from the USS Lexington, and VT-5 off the USS Yorktown. Designed to fit the Monogram/Revell TBD-1 (Kit # 7575) the package includes one (1) sheet of decals, and full painting instructions for either squadron's aircraft.

The sheet itself contains the letter codes used on each of the section leaders planes of the squadrons, and also include U.S. Navy, aircraft type marks, and bureau numbers associated with these aircraft. The sheets are nicely printed, and have a very thin film backing. National insignia, squadron markings, and stenciling are not included, and must come from other sources (including Yellow Wings).

These markings are of an interesting subject, and are very high quality. I recommend them to anyone interested in Pre WW II Naval aviation, or anyone looking to finally build that old TBD kit in your collection!!!
