Yellow Wings Decals has released a beautiful set of National Insignia geared toward the 1/32 Trumpeter SBD-1/2 Dauntless. This set will certainly correct the shortcomings of the decal insignia provided in the kit. This set is designed be used in conjunction with the "Midway Madness" sheet 32-001 allowing the modeler to build up to five different schemes adorned by SBD-2 Dauntless number #2106 from early 1941 to mid 1943.

There are three sheets containing a total of 27 national insignia plus a pair of red and white tail stripes. The insignia provided represent the various sizes used between 1941 and 1943. Included are 24", 45", 52" 71" and 72" starts with red center and 45" and 50" without the red center.

The decals are crisply printed and accurate in color and registration, consistent with Yellow Wings quality. The decals are printed by Microscale and appear to be thin and have very little carrier film. The use of Micro Set and Micro Sol is recommended for best results.

Two sheets of instructions are provided giving the decal placement and paint guidelines for each of the #2106 schemes. Also provided is part of the actual SR-2a directive from 1933 for the placement of National Insignia on the aircraft - a very nice touch. This shows the insignia size to be used and approximate distance from the wing tip for each of the five schemes.

I highly recommend this sheet if you are a building a colorful pre-war Dauntless or a Midway warrior.
