This is a 1/32 scale decal set for the Fw 190D based on Jerry Crandall's book, "The Fw 190 Dora Volume One" from Eagle Editions Ltd. What you get are two sheets of markings and stencils for four examples of the Dora and a well researched instruction sheet with black and white line drawings for the stencil placement and color drawings for the markings. Also provided is a written descriptions of each aircraft including notes on the camouflage and painting suggestions.

The decals are in perfect register and color and are magnificently thin. As I had just picked up an old Revell Lone Eagles kit of a Dora for $5 from a buddy of mine this seemed like a perfect palette for this set of decals since the kit had no instructions or decals in the box, what a deal when I saw these come across the reviewers availability list from IPMS.

I built the kit up out of the box, chose the version from the color pictures and laid on the paint scheme for Black Chevron One. This one had a spiral on the spinner and the fuselage bands; note that you must paint the white section of the bands. The stencils and markings went on like a dream, water was all I needed to set them on the plane. Once placed and blotted with a clean cloth and a little pressure from a q-tip they laid down and conformed without need of solvent.

The only trouble spot was the spinner. I tried to do it on one piece but remember I said thin! It took me a while of fussing to get the spiral laid back out and cut into sections. A second attempt was needed but the results were worth it. The only other glitch was an operator error in placing the fuselage band, I mixed the placement up and had them backwards. They come as four separate pieces, right, left, fore and aft. I was able to remove them as well and float them back onto the paper and start over. They were amazingly resilient for being so thin.

As you can see in the photos, these decals brought a lot of life to the old kit and at $14.50 retail they are a bargain. I’m sure they would be great for a newer kit of the Dora and I highly recommend these and send my thanks and appreciation to Eagle Editions Ltd. for the review set.
