Skyways is a publication devoted to the history of aviation during the pre-war years. It is professionally produced and presents the results of original research. It covers both historical material and the modern restoration of historically significant aircraft. Much of the material would be useful to the modeler, and I have not previously seen any of the photos published before. What it reminds me of more than anything else is some of the earlier issues of the Journal of the American Aviation Historical Society. The photos, drawings, and articles are of excellent quality.

The April 2007 issue features an article on the restoration and flight tests of a DeHavilland DH-4M mailplane, currently the only Liberty-powered DH-4 flying. There is also a fascinating article on the gigantic Dornier Do.X flying boat, in its day the world's largest airplane. A short "What is it?" section produced nothing that I recognized, and some photos of antique airplanes from the recent Antique Airplane Association flying at Blakesburg, Iowa were also included. Other features were a series of Navy photos of the interior of a Curtiss SBC-3 Helldiver, an interesting article on Frank Hawks' "Time Flies" racing monoplane), the story of the creation of an accurate set of scale drawings of a Command-Aire biplane, and the story of the restoration of the one and only Curtiss-Wright Travelaire B-14R biplane.

This is a high quality publication which provides new and unusual material dealing with pre-World War II aviation. It is well worth getting, and you'll want to save your copies for reference.
