With the advent of technology and the lowering of prices, modeling DVD's were bound to come out. Enter Rafe Morrissey, Dave Powell, Floyd Werner and the Master Class Modeling video series. The first out was a start to finish build of the Hasegawa Bf109. The second title is a complete guide to dealing with one of many modelers' worst fears, natural metal finishes.

Floyd Werner uses the Tamiya P-47 as a base and shows the entire process for obtaining "master" level NMF's. One great thing about these videos is you get to see the process done. For example, Floyd goes through the method of using super glue as filler. He also covers mistakes and how to repair them. I have listed the titles of the chapters below:
  • Fit and Seams Basics
  • Preparing to Paint
  • Applying Primer/Repairing Flaws
  • Spraying Aluminum Base Coat
  • Fixing Flaws Under Alclad
  • Adding Variety
  • Replicating Highly Polished Finishes
  • Masking Over Alclad II
  • Dealing with Canopies
  • Weathering Metallic Finishes
  • Working with Alclad II Chrome
  • Simulating Brass
The entire process uses Alclad II colors and primers and the resulting airplanes, chrome parts and brass props are spectacular. The DVD comes with a materials list, references, tools, and exact parts numbers so that the modeler could follow along if they desire. For less than the price of most kits, you get excellent instruction, Floyd's humor (priceless) and good production values. The video is professionally recorded, well lit and perfectly focused, even on the small parts. To say that I highly recommend this is an understatement, it is a must for modelers to see and use if they have any doubts about natural metal. It can be ordered through your local hobby store or directly from the web site above. Thanks to Rafe and Floyd and the rest of the Master Class group for the excellent work.
