Great American Hot Rods

A Full Throttle Chronicle of Custom Cars from the Street, Show and Strip

If nothing else, this 755 page, 9-lb book will instantly make a low-rider out of any model you’re working on if dropped from above!  All kidding aside, when you crack open the cover of this monster, you’ll drool over 360+ full color images of a variety of custom cars – some immediately familiar to the modeler (e.g., Ed Roth’s trend-setting customs. Tom Daniels’ “Red Baron”, Boyd Cottington’s creations) as well as many lesser-known or unknown rods, customs, smoothy’s and retro-rods.

Each car is featured in a two-page full color spread, with a brief description of running gear and a few paragraphs of what is best described as color commentary.  If you’re hunting about for that next project, this book is sure to get your juices flowing as you consider replicating one of the featured cars or using it as a springboard for customizing or painting ideas for your own project.  In many cases, interior and engine details are shown that will aid the modeler in replicating today’s wide range of hot rod styles, as all are well represented here.

The only drawback I would note is an unfortunate side effect of the two-page spread format for each vehicle – you have to contend with the spine of the book cutting through each image.  That being said, this book is a treasure trove of modeling inspiration and deserves a place on your bookshelf or coffee table.  Heck, put four legs on it and it can be your coffee table <g>.  Well worth a look and recommended, particularly at the current discount price via Amazon.
