This represents the latest in the "At War" series from Zenith Press. The author, Cory Graff, is the assistant curator for Military Collections at the Museum of Flight in Seattle. Some of you may have seen articles by him in Air & Space Smithsonian Magazine. He has had two books published as well.

[review image] In this effort, he has compiled 130 pages of Thunderbolt facts, as well as numerous color and black and white photos, several of which I have not seen previously. The book takes you from the inception of the "Jug" describing the bloodlines to the actual construction of these magnificent flying machines. It also deals with the battle at home to get them built before getting into the "meat and potatoes" of combat -- its role as a fighter escort, a chapter on the war in the Mediterranean, doing duty as a "ground pounder" (fighter/bomber in Europe) and island hopping in the Pacific Theater.

The final chapter deals with Post War "Jugs" in Air Guard as well as Foreign Service.

A most interesting read. Many thanks to Zenith Press and IPMS/USA for the review sample.
