Alex Yofe, with the considerable help of Lawrence Nyveen, strikes another hit with the release of this book. Following on the heals of his Spitfire MK IX in Israeli Air Force Service comes this excellent tome. He has many more books hopefully coming out soon that are dedicated to the machines that flew with the Israeli Air force during the early years of their fight for independence. He plans to cover the B-17, P-51, Texan, and Beau fighter as well.

The book is soft covered and contains 96 pages. Inside the pages you will find over 200 photographs of the Avia, it’s history, the pilots and the ground crews that kept them flying. Many of these photographs are from personal collections and have never been seen before. The book is broken down into twelve chapters and covers the history of the Avia itself, the initial Israeli purchase and training of the pilots, it’s life span in the Israeli Air Force, and it’s final years before being replaced by the Spitfire and P-51.

The pictures are all black and white. The only color pages are the numerous color plates depicting certain airframes. These plates are contained in eight pages near the end of the book. Four of the pages show Avia’s only and the other four show other planes operated by the Israeli Air force and it’s enemies.

Again, if you are into the Israeli Air Force, Middle East Conflict, or the Avia version of the Me-109 then this book is a definite must have. I have to thank my wonderful wife Jerry for allowing me to purchase this great book and IPMS/USA for a place for others to view it. You can purchase this at www.squadron.com.
