This latest title in Ad Hoc's From the Cockpit series features one of the most aesthetically pleasing of aircraft, the Hawker Sea Hawk. One of the first generation of jet fighters, the Sea Hawk had a short, but distinguished career with the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm, including successful combat service in the Suez Campaign of 1956. Serving also with Indian, West Germany and the Netherlands Navies, the Sea Hawk was popular with pilots everywhere. One of these graceful machines still flies with the Royal Naval Historic Flight in Britain.

Authored by Michael Doust, a naval pilot with a long and varied career and who also wrote many of the earlier volumes in this series, this book features the same format as the previous ones. A short history is interspersed with personal recollections of the Sea Hawk form former pilots, and is packed with many large, high quality photos. Also included are short histories of the many squadrons that were equipped with the type, and 4 pages of colour profiles for the modeller.

With the recent releases of the Sea Hawk in 1/72 and 1/48, this book is certainly timely and will be useful to those with one of the kits in their stash. While not a modelling book per se, it is valuable for its many large photos and the profiles, while the recollections add that human element that adds greatly to our understanding of the type sitting on our work benches. This book, and indeed the series in general, can be highly recommended.

Our sincere thanks to Ad Hoc for the review sample. Ad Hoc books can be ordered directly from their website, and from leading hobby distributors.
