The four volume set on the Me-262 published by Classic Publications is the ultimate reference for the first jet fighter, however, there is more.  What ever happened to each aircraft?  This book answers that question and completes the series.

I don’t think I know of any other publication that covers every aircraft that came off the production lines and tracks their history.  Essentially that is what this book does.  Every known Me-262 that rolled off the multiple production lines is included.  Presented in the text for each aircraft is the Werk Number, the call sign and known markings.  In addition to that information the operational details of the aircraft such as the test pilot the unit of assignment, selected stories from the pilots that flew them and the final disposition of the airframe. This book brings the most complete collection of data on individual Me-262s in a one-stop source.

Of course the deteriorating war situation leaves many important facts undiscovered, but does this mean that this book is full of holes?  No, but there is only so much information that can be brought together with the surviving resources.  The author’s research has been a labor of love that utilized pilot log books, loss records and Allied intelligence.  There is a lot of essential information contained in this book.  Is it complete?  No, but the author has an appendix that addresses the aircraft and losses with unknown Werknummern.  The book covers 1200 of the 1500 aircraft produced.  It is the most complete compilation of information on the Me-262 aircraft by aircraft.

If you are looking for an easy reading book this is not it, this is a serious research project.  However, if you are looking for a one-stop reference on the production of the Me-262 this is exactly the research book you are looking for.  The book has numerous color and black and white photographs, many of the photos are previously unpublished.

When accompanied with the other four volumes, this book completes the most extensive history on this historically significant aircraft.  This book is the perfect completer for the Classic Publication’s Me-262 series of books.

I highly recommend this research book to any Luftwaffe buff or historian.
