Pictured here are two issues of an extremely high quality aircraft modeling magazine. Printed and distributed in the U.K., it is published bi-monthly, printed on very heavy glossy stock paper with a semi-hard cover. First look at either issue one can see that it is pure quality throughout, devoted strictly to aircraft modeling with an international flavor. Both of these issues remind me very much of the ill fated publication "Model X". If you've ever seen them, I suspect you would agree, this is aircraft modeling in the extreme.

Volume #18 ( June/July '08) - The contents:
  • Part II of a 1/32nd scale X-15 Fanch Lubin takes you through the steps to turn this kit into a museum piece.
  • Aviation Nation - a second photo report from Nellis AFB celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the USAF.
  • Felixstowe FWA - This is an absolutely mind blowing example of extreme scratch building, described in full detail by Megas Tsonos, winner of the "Cross & Cocade" award at the '07 Nats.
  • Avia B-35 - a 1/32nd scale build article by Z. Sebesta.
  • F-22A Raptor - An excellent collection of reference photos of this new fighter.
  • Greek F-4E - An amazing 1/48th scale Hasegawa Phantom, again detailed to the extreme by P. Salessiotis.
  • Airborn - The latest in new releases
  • Postcards from Torrent - A photo collection of some of the finest examples of model aircraft I have ever seen! From Valencia Spain. All I can say is "WOW"!
Volume #19 ( August/September '08 ) - Similar in format and quality, the following are the subjects covered:
  • P-51B Two Seater - Emmanuel Pernes converts the Tamiya kit.
  • F-104C - Julien Haccoun describes his build of the Hasegawa kit as a Puerto Rican Air Guard machine.
  • Westland MK 43 Sea King - A magnificent build of the 1/72nd Fujimi kit into a Norwegian SAR helo by Albert Tureczek.
  • Xtreme Detail !! - A photo collection of the 1:1 scale SeaKing, subject of the previous build.
  • F8E Crusader - A highly detailed build of the 1/48th Hasagawa kit by Phillipe Roger. Very impressive model!
  • One Ten - The Editor, David Parker, builds the recent Eduard offering in 1/48th, in winter camouflage.
  • Airborn - The latest release in aviation related modeling subjects and accessories.
  • Spitfire MK VIII - Franck Oudin builds this classic Hasegawa kit (1/48th) in USAAF colors.
As previously stated, the magazine is published bi-monthly by AFV Modeller Ltd. of New Castle upon the Tyne, U.K. It is priced competitively with most of the other modeling magazines, which I find interesting in that without question; this appears to be a substantial cut above the others in terms of quality. I recommend emailing them for subscription details at info@afvmodeller.com

A sincere thanks to Air Modeller for expanding my horizons with these review samples!

Most highly recommended.
