Viking Raid 54mm Vignette

Reviewed By Jack Bruno, #25313

Continuing my foray in to historical dioramas, I came across a very well done three figure setting called, The Viking Raid.  It consists of three figures and depicts a Viking raider chasing a fleeing monk holding a Bible, while another wounded monk is laying across a Celtic headstone, trying to hide church records and chalices.

Again, as with the previous vignette, The Glory Of Rome, the wounded monk is already molded into the base and is very crisp and detailed.  Your painting skills will come in handy with painting the cobblestone brick work and Celtic cross, which comes as a separate piece.  The figure of the Viking is in the running mode and is armed with a very nice sword and wooden shield.  Very appropriate for that timeframe, but I would have preferred an ax and horned helmet.  But alas, other releases are eminent and I see my wishes will come true, but that's another review.

There is a fair amount of clean up to do from the resin parts blocks.  Take great care in not snapping any of the delicate details.  Painting is a very straightforward and the box top is a valuable guide.  Feel free to change your colors at will, Vikings wore a variety of dress.  A multiple choice of colors for the monks robes are also historical fact, due to the several different Orders that existed, black and several browns are yours for the choosing.  A couple of nice washes and careful dry brushing will enhance this piece into a welcome addition to your collection.

This series is starting to be an outstanding addition to my enjoyment in modeling.  This is a fantastic way to try something different for a quick and great weekend build.  This set is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!  I wish to thank IPMS/USA for providing us with a great website to share these reviews and add to our enjoyment of modeling!
