54mm The Victor

Reviewed By Jack Bruno, #25313

Verlinden continues to release some very nice and well detailed resin vignettes in 54 mm.  This set continues to accent this series and does not fail in giving us a very nice rendition of a period piece.

The vignette includes two figures of which one is a standing helmeted warrior admiring a battle victim.  He sports a huge battle-ax with a round wooden shield carried on his back.  Secondary arms include a sword for close combat.  The second figure is already pre-mounted on the base and the groundwork is extraordinary with rocks and grassed areas.

Construction is very straightforward and should prove no problem for a modeler of some experience.  Of coarse, painting liberties can be taken with the battle dress but the box art will be a great aid in helping any modeler with painting instruction.  As always, minor cleanup must be done to the parts and great care must be taken when removing the parts from the resin blocks.  I really like these historical vignettes from this time period.  The Victor with the ax is quite impressive as well as the fallen enemy.  There are similarities in dress and the encounter could be hypothesized as a duel.

I would love to see the continuation of these adversary themes.  I can really see a Greek/Persian, Hastings, Agincourt, Rome/Carthage set coming down the road.  This set is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and I purchased it at the recent Region 5 Convention hosted by IPMS/Great Plains.
