150mm Skeleton Warrior

Reviewed By Jack Bruno, #25313

Continuing in the figure genre, I chose to review a fantasy figure from Verlinden.  This is a fairly large piece in 150 mm instead of the usual 120 mm.  The figure itself reminds me of the "Jason and the Argonauts" movie, but is clothed in the dress of a Medieval Knights Templar.  The base is most impressive with steps and foot placements for the pose of the figure and includes unfortunate victim’s skulls/bones lying at the feet of the warrior.  Although not shown, there is a cool looking helmet included.  But, I must admit, it looks better without to show the detail of the skull.  The skull has a separate jaw bone to open the mouth as wide or closed as you like or leave off.

The detail is extraordinary but caution must be taken during the gluing and handling.  Several of the joints that hold the figure together must be assembled with care.  Really cool chain mail is cut open from battle to show the ribcage.  Washes and dry-brushing will bring out the detail here.  Although I usually don't get into disagreeing with the builder, the skeletal bones would look a whole lot better if painted in dark yellow with progressive brownish washes and dry-brushing of white in some areas.  But, that's the advantages of modeling, you can paint it anyway you desire!!  The shield and battle-ax are huge and will accent the Doom Slayer.  As always, care must be taken when separating the parts from the resin blocks and always wear a mask!!!

If you’re looking for something different to do these fantasy figures may be right up your alley.  There is another skeletal figure in this series and could be used in a pairing of two.  Visit the Verlinden website to check out more cool stuff.  I picked this beauty up on eBay, but I'm sure you can find it at swaps and well stocked Hobby Shops!

This model is Highly Recommended.
