Kit Number 1230

120mm The Black Prince

Reviewed By Jack Bruno, #25313

If I were to suggest a simple large figure to cut your teeth on, this striking knight would be it.  Verlinden's Black Prince in 120mm comes in 17 pieces, with more than half of those being weapon related.  Molded in very high quality gray resin, the Black Prince is posed swinging a mighty battle-ax during combat.

Construction is very straightforward and should not pose a problem for a modeler with a few kits/figures behind them.  Cleanup on my kit is kept to a minimum, but care must be taken when cutting the resin parts from the resin parts blocks.  The box art is the perfect painting guide and the black dress is very simple, yet yearning for intricate dry brushing and washes.  The chain mail, once washed, would enhance an already spectacular presence.  Care must be taken when constructing the weapons.  The small handles (swords, spurs, etc.) must line up correctly and might be a little fiddly.

The groundwork is a round base with various sized rocks and a sword.  Two foot-placement guides show you exactly were to mount this deadly knight.  The base/groundwork should be very simple to paint and it is the modelers option for greens/browns or others.

There is also an option for this figure by mating it with Verlinden #1231, a French Knight with sword.  Mounted together the modeler can create a stunning 120mm vignette of two knights in combat.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this kit and purchased it on the open market.  THANK YOU to IPMS/USA, John Noack, Bob Hester, Jim Woody and the awesome IPMS Website that gives modelers, like me, a chance to share the knowledge with my fellow IPMSer's.
