Upon opening the box you will find two sprues containing 35 parts, thirty of which are used. The ones not used are the drop tanks and support and an extra part. It appears that MPM were going to add the ramjet feature into the kit but changed their minds as those parts are dotted in on the instructions but not included.

The mold has respectable detail of the skin and generally the parts do fit together well. I noticed no misalignments.

The plastic is molded in gray which would allow for using the white paint scheme if you so chose. The instructions are clear and well written. Assemblies and sub assemblies have adequate clarity.

One of the coolest features of this model is the clear plastic canopy. The X-15 had small windows and it would have been hard to install these in the hood structure. However this kit has a clear canopy which would allow you to model, and see, the interior for super detailing interior if desired.

The decals are clear and sharp. The kit It took me about 14 hours to assemble with decals and custom base. Note that the wood base was not included with the kit.

On the negative side the kit does not contain a stand, but this is a small thing as you can do your own or if you are careful set the model on its skid base. On my model I constructed a armature to the inside to hold the model as shown.

You can buy the kit online at Squadron Mail Order and I have seen the kit in my local store. The cost of $25.96 for this kit is good. The model is from MPM Models:

In general I would say that the kit is very respectable, and will add a very nice X-15 to your collection of experimental aircraft. Thanks to MPM for the opportunity to review this neat kit.
