MSRP - $14.00 USD This is the latest release from Academy
in 1/72nd scale, and is without a doubt, the finest Crusader produced by
any manufacturer in this scale. It comes beautifully molded in light gray
plastic, with very nicely scribed detail and crisp clean clear parts. A
beautiful set of decals gives the builder the option of 2 USMC Birds, VMF
333 or VMF 232.
It also appears that the builder is given the option of the wing in the
raised or retracted position and further, with only minor surgery, it
could be displayed with the wings folded. |

Two things really stand out to me with the initial look.
First, the ordnance…the hi drag bombs are as nice as I have seen from
anyone in this scale. Secondly, check out the decal sheet! What used to
be a really “fiddly” operation at best, appears to have been made into a
walk in the park! Those pesky little yellow lines that outline the glass
portions of the windscreen have been reduced to decals! I can’t wait to
see how these workout in reality! This little jewel is an exceptionally
nice kit and belongs in your stash if you are a fan of USN/USMC aircraft.
I feel it needs to be said here that kudos are truly in order for this
manufacturer. They have, indeed, come a long way as one can easily see by
comparing their older kits to those produced over the past few years. I
can’t imagine how in the world they are going to follow an act like the
big Hornet, but I am certain these folks will figure it out. Academy, we
salute you !! |
