Just Plane Stuff

SUITABLE FOR FRAMING!

Reviewed By Ed Kinney, #2989

Just finished your personal masterpiece and looking for a way to enhance the appearance?  To me, there is no better way than to place it on whatever display base best suits the subject and these folks have a wide range of really neat ones.  It has become a given that at any contest, although the base itself is not to be judged as a part of the model, it certainly attracts the attention to a well done entry.

Pictured are several of their offerings.  A World War II carrier deck in 1/32nd scale, a Japanese carrier deck in 1/48th and a modern U.S. Navy carrier deck in 1/48th.  The last two come with photo-etched tie downs and all take paint and weathering beautifully.

In addition to the carrier decks in most scales, there are also available Luftwaffe Plank Hardstands, PSP Hardstands, PSP Helicopter Pads, the USS Hornet Flight Deck in 1/48th scale for the Accurate Miniature Doolittle Raider and a 1/48th F4F-3A Wildcat Conversion Set.

A short while ago, I ordered the 1/32nd WWII Carrier Deck and upon arrival, I found that no matter what I did, I couldn’t get any kind of paint to adhere to it.  Just touching it would remove any finish, even having thoroughly scrubbed it with Bleachwhite, laundry soap and lacquer thinner.  ( I must state here that this never happened before nor since with ANY JUST PLANE STUFF PRODUCT).

As a consequence, I contacted Dave Schemel at Just Plane Stuff, who was as baffled as I was.  As near as he could determine, there was some release  agent in a small batch of these that affected the adhesion.  Much to his credit, Dave stepped up and sent me a replacement that proved to be without problem.  In addition, he sent me a modern US carrier deck as a review sample as the images show.

In short, these are high quality products offered by an individual willing to stand behind them.  What more could you ask for?

Again, kudos to Dave and Just Plane Stuff.  Keep up the great work.  Check out their web site to order at www.justplanestuff.net.
