The F-4 Phantom II was possibly the most widely used
aircraft in the Vietnam war. Three branches of the military employed
the F-4 in may different roles, the Navy, Marines and the Air Force.
The first Phantom to use the internal Vulcan cannon was the F-4E.
The reason for the upgrade was the lack of self defense at short range.
All the previous models used air to air missiles. A gun pod was
experimented with but lacked accuracy. Many MiGs fell to the Phantom
during the conflict, and some did fall to the MiGs. This sheet is in
memory of the POW’s of Vietnam and all wars.
Twobobs has brought their expertise and attention to
detail to older subjects. The F-4E SEA Heroes sheet covers 2
aircraft that prowled the skies over Vietnam. The first was the
plane piloted by Col. J.D. Pewitt “Chico the Gunfighter”, and the second
is Lt. John Dallager/Lt. Don Logan with a MiG kill marking. The
sheet is highly detailed and right on register. There are enough
markings to build both aircraft mentioned. Of note is that both
planes have the early short gun muzzle. Some kits only come with the
longer late version. The Pro Modeler has both included in the kit.
Since these decals are printed by Microscale, their system is recommended
for application. An interesting addition to the colorful marking and
painting guide is the factual stories of both aircraft and crews as told
by them. All of this sets Twobobs apart from all the other decal
creators.
This is a great sheet for anyone wanting to build very
accurate F-4E Phantom II aircraft from the Vietnam war. This set is
very highly recommended! Thank you to Twobobs and John Noack for the
review sample! |
