Two Bobs 1/48 F-15E Strike Eagle
"Anaconda Squeeze Play"

The Pro Modeler F-15E Strike Eagle is an outstanding model kit and as such, deserves a striking paint scheme.  Unfortunately, most of the Air Force’s Mud Hens aren’t very colorful for obvious tactical reasons.  Colors range from Gunship Gray to well, Gunship Gray.  Since the paint on the aircraft isn’t flashy, the next best thing is to choose markings that if not colorful, are at least note worthy.  This is where Two Bob’s Graphics comes to the rescue.

Two Bob’s recently released a decal sheet highlighting Mud hens that flew in Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  The decal sheet provides markings for three distinct aircraft, all from the “Chiefs” of the 335th Fighter Squadron.  Each aircraft sports distinctive nose art that eulogizes the 9-11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.

As always, Two Bob’s decals are thoroughly researched, in perfect register, and easy to apply.  They recommend using the Micro-Scale System, and either Micro-set or Micro-sol works very effectively.  The only glitch I encountered with this decal set occurred when I was ready to apply the nose art decal.  The nose art decals come as two separate graphics.  First, you must lay down the white background graphic and let it dry thoroughly.  Next, the colored portion of the nose art is applied over the blank.  The nose art decals are separate from the main decal sheet, and I should have suspected something might be amiss, as a result.  Unlike the decals on the main sheet the nose art graphics are printed with continuous carrier film, and I didn’t realize this until I slid the decal off of its backing paper.  I only wish the instructions would have mentioned this.

In spite of this minor glitch, the decals worked very well, and I was pleased with the outcome.  This sheet lists for approximately ten dollars and is available directly from twobobs.net.  Get this sheet while you can because when it’s gone, Two Bobs will not print any more.
