TwoBobs have been churning out the decal sheets for modern jets and this new F-15E set is bang up-to-date, as it shows 4 Mudhens from the 336th FS, 4th FW, involved in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). During the course of OIF, the 336th painted nose art on all of their F15Es. One of these was “Shangri-La II,” a tribute to Don Gentile, the leading ace of the 336th in WWII. This and 3 other aircraft are featured in this set; “Memphis Belle III”, “Mad Duck IV” and the very large and colorful “Dragon Betty II.”

TwoBobs decals are printed by Microscale and are therefore of a known quality. They are well printed, nicely opaque and very thin. TwoBobs recommends the use of Micro Set and Micro Sol with their decals, and these do aid with the application of these decals. The decals just disappear into the varnish and appear almost painted on.

I chose to use the decals representing “Memphis Belle III” and the results were impressive. Each of the nose art decals comes in two parts. Applied first is a decal with the colored portions. On top of this is applied the black outline. This works very well, with just a minimum of off-registration apparent when the outline was aligned properly. The other markings consist of one full set of stenciling plus national markings. Slime panels are also included.

These are interesting and timely subjects and I hope that TwoBobs continues to provide up-to-date, quality decals.

Decals are available directly from TwoBobs at http://www.twobobs.net. My thanks to TwoBobs for supplying the review sample.
