MSRP: $15.99 USD David Klaus and the crew at Meteor Productions
have been cranking out some really great “Pick Your Noseart” decal sheets, and this one is great also. There are two aircraft
depicted on this sheet; “Our Gal Sal”, a B-17G from the 351st Bomb Squadron, 100th Bomb Group and “Double Trouble”, a B-17F from
the 333rd Bomb Squadron, 94th Bomb Group. The sheet is very nicely done, is in perfect
registration and the decals are very thin. The nose art, however, is printed on a solid sheet and must be carefully cut out and be
applied over the background decals. The nose art decals are produced by another process and are packaged in a separate zip lock
bag. Detailed instructions are offered on how to apply both the “standard” decals and the nose art decals. Early and late National
Insignia are included on the sheet. I was particularly interested in “Our Gal Sal”, as my
uncle A.E. Richmond was a bombardier with the 100th BG. A very extensive history of the aircraft is included with the decal sheet,
as well as documentation of all of the deviations from standard markings. A very complete bibliography is also listed, as well as
the model colors that should be used to replicate the olive drab and neutral gray paints used on the aircraft.
I already had an Academy B-17G before getting the sheet, and now have an Academy B-17F, so I can model
both aircraft. This sheet is one of a limited issue of 300.
Thanks to David Klaus for the review sample and to John Noack for allowing me to add it to my decal
box. |
