Cutting Edge Decals

Fw 190A - Vicious Wulfs, Part 1

Part Number CED 48250

This decal continues Cutting Edge Decals search for unusual markings.  There are markings for five individual aircraft all serving in France and Norway in 1942 and 1943.  As is always the case with Cutting Edge Decals, the registry is smack on.

I quickly built two old Otaki Fw 190 kits to try the decals out on plastic.  I painted both in the Northern European colors of RLM 74, 75, and 76 with Yellow rudders and the area under the engine.  After the paint was completely dry I used a Black acrylic paint, very well watered down, to replicated a black disrupted finish as used in night bombing operations.  I applied the decals to this one and then, after they (the decals) were dry, I put more of the thinned Acrylic paint over the markings to give them a subdued effect.  This worked out well and looks acceptable to me, (but then I am not hard to please).

I chose to decal the next Fw in the markings of Ofw. Bruno Hegenauer.  These markings are unusual in that he uses the initials "He" on the sides of the aircraft.  At first it appeared that there was going to be a fit problem but eventually everything fit together very well.  I haven't used the other markings yet but everything appears fit and correct.  It's always a pleasure to work with good decals even if the model itself is less than perfect.  If you have ever built an Otaki kit, you will know what I mean.

The decals are compatible to the Micro-Scale System and stronger solvents such as Champ and  Solvi-Set as well.
