Gettysburg 1863

"High Tide of the Confederacy"

Without a doubt, more has been written about the Battle of Gettysburg than any other Battle of the Civil War and perhaps, dare I say, any other Battle in United States Military History.  From July 1 thru July 3, 1863, The Army of Northern Virginia engaged the Army Of the Potomac in a classic confrontation of luck/mistakes/wrong-no information and being in the wrong place at the right time.  In this encounter, it's very feasible to say that if Lee was victorious in this Battle, the South could win the war.  This jam packed OSPREY Book gives you an overview of the three day engagement in 128 pages.

Speaking from the modelers point of view only, the pictures and color plates are instrumental in capturing the look for A.C.W. Figures.  There are a variety of uniforms on both sides of the fence and is illustrated on some of the pages effectively.  The color Battlefield Maps are illustrated well, but are often confusing.  There were so many different engagements that went on during those three days in July 1863, that a vignette builder could do nothing but Gettysburg subjects his entire life.  Touched on in this book is Pickett's Charge, Culp's Hill, Peach Orchard, Cemetery Hill, Seminary Ridge, Chambersburg Pike and more.

As I said, it is an overview and I would/can suggest other Books if the reader was looking for a more comprehensive study of the Battle.  However, this book delivers to the Figure modeler what it should, some accurate uniform styles and B/W pictures of notable Generals and common grunts.  This  book is well presented in the what has become known as, the OSPREY STYLE.

RECOMMENDED.
