American manufactured versions of the DH4 were the only US made aircraft to see combat during the Great War.  As such they deserve a special place in American aviation history.  This recent edition to the highly respected and definitive Windsock Data File series amply covers this noteworthy aircraft.

In 32 pages of photographs -- period black and white along with color photos of the DH4 at the Smithsonian -- color artwork, unit histories and detailed drawings, Windsock has created another indispensable reference for modelers and students of aviation history.

All too often I have seen aircraft three view drawings in other publications without the necessary sections and detailed insets, which in essence renders them of little value to serious modelers.  Windsock has never fallen into this pattern and accordingly, this publication contains some of the best drawings (overall and detailed in both 1/48th and 1/72nd scale) I have ever seen.  Naturally, these drawings rightly contain strong warnings against unauthorized reproduction and use.

Many of the unit histories are supplemented with personal recollections that add great interest to the already highly readable text.  I also enjoyed visiting their very informative website at www.windsockdatafilespecials.com which contains complete information on all of their publications.

This is a great monograph that I strongly recommend.
